Why This Blog Exists

Second Gear Life is not a blog about glorifying reckless driving, illegal behavior, or dangerous choices.

It is a story about failure, loss, addiction, recovery, and rebuilding life — told through the lens of cars, especially Japanese cars from the 1980s to the 2000s.

This blog exists because my life once went badly off course.

A Story of Mistakes, Not Heroics

Some of the stories on this site include:

  • Driving on mountain roads
  • Drinking problems and addiction
  • Accidents and legal consequences
  • Mental health struggles
  • Hospitalization and recovery

These are not shared to promote or justify harmful behavior.

They are shared because they happened — and because pretending they didn’t would be dishonest.

This blog does not encourage dangerous driving, drunk driving, or illegal acts.
On the contrary, many of the episodes describe the consequences of those choices and the damage they caused to myself and others.

Why I Chose to Write This

For a long time, I felt ashamed of my past.

I made bad decisions.
I hurt people I cared about.
I lost my health, my career, and my sense of direction.

At my lowest point, I believed my life was already over.

But it wasn’t.

Through recovery, reflection, and rebuilding from zero, I slowly found a new way to live.

This blog is my way of:

  • Acknowledging my past honestly
  • Taking responsibility for my mistakes
  • Sharing what I learned from failure
  • Turning painful experiences into something meaningful

Cars as a Metaphor for Life

Cars — especially the AE86 — are not just machines to me.

They represent:

  • Youth and passion
  • Poor decisions and obsession
  • Loss and regret
  • Recovery and second chances

The title Second Gear Life reflects this idea:

Shifting gears once more, and starting to drive through life again.

This blog is not about being the fastest or the strongest.
It is about standing back up after falling, and choosing to move forward again.

My Current Stance

Today:

  • I no longer drink alcohol
  • I actively prioritize safety and responsibility
  • I do not drive recklessly
  • I do not promote illegal behavior
  • I continue mental health treatment and recovery

The stories shared here are reflections on the past — not endorsements of it.

Who This Blog Is For

This blog is for:

  • People who love cars and Japanese automotive culture
  • People who have failed and want to start over
  • People struggling with addiction, depression, or direction in life
  • People searching for meaning after hitting rock bottom

If even one person reads these stories and feels:

“I’m not alone.”
“Maybe I can still rebuild my life.”

Then this blog has done its job.

A Final Note

Second Gear Life exists because my life didn’t end when I thought it had.

It changed direction.

And this blog is part of that new direction.
